Tania Maria hit Denmark in the middle of the ‘70s at a time when anything was possible!
Interest in music from other parts of the world was exploding, and more than anything else,
Brazilian music was the thing. Tania Maria was one of the first young Brazilian musicians to
visit Denmark. With irresistible energy, she tackled audiences as well as the more or less
hopeless pianos in the jazz clubs, and took Denmark by storm on successive tours.
In 1978, at the pinnacle of her Danish career, Tania Maria and her trio recorded a live LP at
Copenhagen’s Jazzclub Montmartre. At this time, her rhythm section consisted of a
streamlined French bass and drum tandem, Marc Bertaux on electric bass, and André “Dede”
Ceccarelli on drums. They both knew the ins and outs of Brazilian music, and Tania Maria’s
sparkling vocals and swinging piano has perhaps never been captured better than on this
outstanding live LP.

Back then, one of Tania Maria’s highest wishes was to play with bassist Niels-Henning Ørsted
Pedersen. A tour was arranged, culminating in two breathtaking concerts at Copenhagen’s
Jazzclub Montmartre. These dates were followed by two studio sessions, where they honed
the music to reach even higher levels. At the release in 1979, everyone agreed that they had
created an album that could easily become a classic.
Since then, many aficionados have looked forward to hearing these outstanding collections of
imperishable music on CD. And here they are! Carefully re-mastered to meet the demands of
our day, the original music is completely intact.
The trio CD re-creates in full the atmosphere Tania Maria created at the Monmartre. The
unrestrained mood of musical playfulness between the three musicians virtually bursts out of
the speakers.

Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen has rarely performed with greater imagination and energy as
on the duo CD with an impressively motivated Tania Maria.
Audiences with the good fortune to have experienced one of Tania Maria’s shows, either with
her trio or with Danish jazz great Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen, will smile with fond
recognition as the music fills the room. As for those who are not quite as lucky: Prepare
yourself for a great time.
