Tenor saxophonist Chico Freeman's third recording as a leader has been reissued on this CD. The 24-minute three-part "Moments" (which has been expanded a little for the reissue) and "And All the World Moved" are explorative duets by Freeman and bassist Cecil McBee while the 16-minute "Merger" (the set's highpoint) finds the pair joined by pianist Muhal Richard Abrams (who is in excellent form), drummer Steve McCall and percussionist Tito Sampa. Freeman (who switches between tenor, bass clarinet and flute) shows why he was rated so high during this early productive period.  -  Scott Yanow
