This is a thoughtful date that emphasizes the ensemble sound of an interesting quintet comprised of trumpeter Enrico Rava, guitarist Augusto Mancinelli, pianist John Taylor, bassist Furio Di Castri and drummer Bruce Ditmas. They perform six Rava originals (including "Monky Tonk") and a brief "Holiday for Strings." The music is unhurried yet purposeful, spontaneous yet with the five musicians often thinking as one. Taylor's Keith Jarrett-inspired piano is a major asset. - Scott Yanow
