Uri Caine is something of a musical stylistic jack-of-all-trades. He has distinguished himself as a confident improviser in a conventional jazz piano trio as well as an adventurous reinterpreter of classical works from Bach to Mahler.
He works with electronic sound generation as well as street noises, which he condenses into programmatic works. His jazz ambitions move freely between mainstream, fusion, Latin, klezmer, and free-form playing. With his current trio, which includes high-profile partners double bassist Drew Gress and drummer Ben Perowsky, Uri Caine explores old and new pianistic territory, from Monk to Hancock to his own rich world of ideas.
