The Tingvall Trio belongs to the very few young jazz acts that have advanced to the upper ranks of their genre within a very short time. On “Vattensaga” the unmistakeable group sound had become even more homogeneous, the album was their breakthrough in Europe. The Trio has matured into one of the leading European piano trios with the purely acoustic and above all song-oriented repertoire that makes the music stand out so well. The now-ripened band sound is hallmarked by Martin Tingvall’s compositions, Jürgen Spiegel’s playing has become even more finely meshed and versatile, allowing him to become a storyteller in his own right within the trio and Omar Rodriguez Calvo promenades between earthy bass lines and delicately bowed passages while with Martin Tingvall one can’t help noticing that he has taken on a meaty Fazioli concert grand as his partner. His style displays power and assurance, yet he is more sparing than ever before when the mood calls for it. The Tingvall Trio has grown up. Tales revolving around water, the most important basic element, its power, the fascination it holds and its magic define what are almost cinematically designed pieces. With the album Tingvall Trio charted for the first time in the German Hazz Charts on No.21, was honoured with an ECHO JAZZ (German Jazz Grammy) for “Best Jazz Ensemble Of The Year” and received a German JAZZ AWARD Award in GOLD. - Skiprecords
