STEVE LACY·MICHAEL SMITH - Sidelines (1977)

Soprano saxophonist Steve Lacy and the obscure pianist Michael Smith performed seven of their originals (five by Lacy and two from Smith) for this Improvising Artists set which has recently been reissued on CD. The music is explorative, thoughtful and a bit dry. It may take listeners a few listens to get into these deliberate collaborations.  -  Scott Yanow
