JIMMY RANEY - Solo (1976)

This intriguing set features Jimmy Raney in a set of overdubbed guitar duets with himself. He put a lot of thought into the interpretations, which range from a couple of nearly free pieces ("New Signal" and a revamping of the standard "Smoke Gets in Your Eyes") to mostly pre-planned numbers influenced by classical music, a fairly ad-lib "The Way You Look Tonight," a straightforward rendition of the pretty "Wait 'Til You See Her," and the tricky "Blues Variations."  -  Scott Yanow
